A perfect day
I had a lot of problems with a bad map on my Westfield Cosworth made by a French tuner. I live in the center of France. I wanted someone able to make a live tuning on a dyno and on a Cosworth engine. It doesn't exist in France! I decided to come to Blackpool to entrust my car to MS Developments. I traveled more than 1000 km. It sounds crazy but it is the best idea I have ever had for this car. My request was complex. I wanted more power levels associated with various levels of boost and a perfect cold start running. The result is much better than I expected. The car is now smooth, reactive, very powerful but progressive and easy and... sober !
It was just a perfect day...
My porsche GT3 on the dyno
I've had a fantastic afternoon at Motorsport developments with my porsche GT3 on thier dyno. From the start I had loads of confidence in the guys, they took great care when mounting my car on the dyno rollers, they then slowly warmed it up and connected all the monitoring equipment up. A total of 12 power runs where then performed, after each run the guys explained everything that was happening and what all the read outs and data meant. They uploaded a new map into the ECU at one point due to the air fuel ratio being incorrect, this solved the problem and increased the power by 15bhp! At the end they gave me all the print outs and even an album of pictures and videos on my USB stick taken on the day. The ultra modern equipment they use is awesome. The dyno cell and the knowledge the guys at Motorsport developments have is the best in the business. On site remapping, repair garage and the dyno is the complete package.
Dyno Experience
The dyno cell at Motorsport developments is installed and operated with the kind of obsessive attention to detail that I like. This is a dyno cell built for those who want accuracy and repeatability for tuning their vehicles, and only a dyno installed in a cell with such strict environmental control will allow this. Few people realise that differences in ambient temperature, air pressure and humidity all have marked effects on an engine's performance, and if you are progressively tuning or modifying a vehicle, you need to be able to repeatedly test it knowing that your first baseline run conditions can be replicated as close as possible.
The guys at MSD are also enthusiastic, helpful and passionate about what they do.
Highly recommended.
I have been to a few rolling
I have been to a few rolling roads that are just dynos chucked in to a room. This is certainly not just that! The clinicalness of the whole outfit can be seen throughout from the waiting area to the dyno cell. I would not think twice about taking my car back to msd a top class service every time.
Dyno experience
This was the first time I have had a car tested on a dynamometer. I had assumed they are fairly simple devices mechanically and in principal, they are. But as Stewart Sanderson very clearly explained, unless the engine cooling, exhaust gasses, ambient pressure and ambient temperature are carefully controlled, the dyno will return false readings. I was mightily impressed with the attention to detail in controlling these variables so you can be confident that the output data will be a true reflection of your vehicle's performance (or lack thereof).
Even if you are not a performance freak, it's well worth having your car tested to give you a baseline to check any possible future fall off in performance or fuel economy. It takes about an hour to set up and run the tests and you are provided with graphical printouts to keep. Your session on the dyno will also be stored at Motorsport Developments for future reference.
